What is not included in the entry fee? -- Lodging, transportation to and from courses, other meals not specified, and practice rounds.
Which courses will I play?-- Course assignments will be determined 1-2 weeks prior to the tournament. Any adjustments will be made upon check-in, as there may be last minute handicap adjustments. Regardless, all of the participating courses are considered to be the top courses in the Pacific Northwest.
What is the format?-- Single individual, net stroke play for 54 holes. Top Qualifiers after 54 holes will play 18 more holes at Chambers Bay based on stroke play, where an overall net and gross champion will be crowned.
Do I compete against players at my handicap level?-- Yes. You will compete against players of your same handicap. Which means, everyone of all abilities is invited. Handicap groups/flights will be from 8-20 players at the most. Qualifiers in your group/flight will play Chambers Bay on Sunday.
Are practice rounds included? -- No. Feel free to call them and tell them you are with the "AAC Tournament". Course information can be found here.
Do I need an established USGA handicap to play in the AAC?-- No, but you do need a handicap by a Recognized Golfing Association. For example: "The Washington State Golfing Association" or the "So. Cal Golfing Association". Please contact the USGA for more information about establishing a handicap, or contact us for further questions.
Can I use a GPS or Range Finding device?-- During play at the 2008 American Amateur Championship, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. If a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3 of the USGA, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional function is actually used
Can I use a personal caddie?-- Yes. Players may have 1 caddie with them at anytime during the tournament. Caddies may carry clubs. Caddies may not ride in or on carts with players.
Do I have to ride in the cart?-- No. Although carts are provided the first 3 round and the use of them is encouraged to speed up the pace of play, players do not have to ride in the cart. They may chose to walk. If pace of play becomes a problem, the AAC and golf course management reserves the right to have players ride in a cart. *Please note: Chambers Bay does not have carts.
Can I use a push cart?-- Yes. Same rules apply with pace of play above.
How do you prevent "sandbagging"?-- In order to promote fair play and improve the quality of competition, we have created the AAC Fair Play Committee. This Committee is established to promote fair play and sportsmanship, along with establish a standard of excellence which is the foundation of the American Amateur Championship. Click Here for more information regarding our Handicap System.
Can I be paired with my friends?-- Sorry, but to keep the integrity of this tournament, we cannot honor pairing requests. You may request to "play down" in a flight so that you are playing at the same time and courses as your friends. For example: a "16 handicap" can ask to play down in the "13 handicap" group because his friends are in that group. However, this player will have to play as a 13 handicap in the tourney.
Do you offer any hotel deals?-- Yes! Call one of our hotel partners, mention the AAC Golf Tournament, and you will receive 30-60% depending on the hotel. (Click Here for our hotel sponsors)
Should I bring my spouse/family?-- Of course! Click on the tabs above and you will see why the Pacific Northwest is one of the best places in all of the US to visit during the summer. There is plenty to do for everyone!
What is the cancelation/refund policy?-- Full refunds will be given if "written cancelation" is "received" by June 20th, 2008. If cancellation occurs after June 20th and "received" before July 10th, a $150 refund will be issued. No refund will be given for cancellations "received" after July 10th.
(All refunds must be submitted in writing. Please allow 4-6 weeks for refund processing)
